Working Together
Starting therapy can feel like stepping into the unknown — especially if you’ve never experienced it before. So I’ve put together an overview of what to expect, from your first conversation with me through to our ongoing sessions.
My hope is that this helps you feel more comfortable taking that first step and gives you a sense of how we can work together.
What our sessions look like
My online therapy sessions take place via Microsoft Teams, giving you the flexibility to access counselling from wherever feels most comfortable for you.
Although we meet online, the relationship we build together is still at the heart of the work. Sessions are a space to slow down, explore what’s happening beneath the surface, and make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences.
Regular session — 50 minutes — £60
Shorter session — 25 minutes — £30
Extended session — 75 minutes — £90
We can meet weekly, fortnightly, or at another rhythm that feels right for you. Payment is taken in advance by bank transfer.
Making online therapy work for you
Flexible and accessible
Online counselling means you can access support without the added time and stress of travelling to appointments. You might join from home, your office, or another private space that works for you.
For some people, being in their own familiar environment can make therapy feel less intimidating and easier to fit around everyday life.
You can choose whether sessions take place by video call or phone, depending on what feels most comfortable.
Creating a comfortable space
Therapy can bring up a lot of different emotions, so it can help to create a space where you feel as settled as possible.
You might want a drink nearby, some tissues, a blanket, or a few quiet moments afterwards to reflect. Some people find it helpful to have a walk, listen to music, or do something grounding after a session before returning to the rest of their day.
Where possible, try to find somewhere private where you won’t be interrupted or overheard. This helps protect your confidentiality and gives you space to be fully yourself.
During our sessions
I’ll send you a Microsoft Teams link before your appointment. A few minutes before we begin, you can click the link and check your audio and video settings before joining the session.
If there are technical difficulties, we’ll work through them together. We can try reconnecting, or if needed, arrange another way to complete the session.
Getting Started
1. Book a free introductory call
We’ll have a relaxed 15-minute conversation to see whether we might be a good fit. It’s an opportunity for you to ask any questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether you’d like to take the next step.
There is no pressure or obligation to continue.
2. Complete a little paperwork
If we decide to work together, I’ll send you a short welcome pack and consent form to complete before we begin.
This helps me understand a little more about you and ensures we have everything in place for our work together.
3. Your first session
Our first session is a chance for us to begin getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you’d like support with, and what you hope might change.
You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out. We can start wherever feels right for you.
What you can expect from me
I offer a confidential, person-centred therapy space where you can talk openly about whatever feels important.
You can expect me to listen with warmth, curiosity and respect, without judgement or assumptions about who you are or what your experiences mean.
I follow the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), receive regular supervision, and continue with ongoing professional development to make sure I provide thoughtful and responsible support.
Making therapy work well
Therapy works best when you have the space and privacy to be present. Before sessions, try to find somewhere you feel comfortable and where you won’t be interrupted.
You’re welcome to have anything that helps you feel settled nearby — whether that’s a drink, tissues, a notebook, or simply a comfortable place to sit.
Please join sessions alcohol- and drug-free (unless taking prescribed medication).
Cancellations
Life happens, and I understand that things don’t always go to plan.
If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, please give more than 24 hours’ notice wherever possible. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged at the full fee, except in exceptional circumstances.
If I need to cancel due to illness or unexpected circumstances, I won’t charge you and will arrange another appointment as soon as possible.
Confidentiality
Will what I say stay private?
Yes. What we talk about in therapy stays between us, with a few important exceptions.
For example, I may need to share information if I have serious concerns about your safety or someone else’s safety, or if I am legally required to do so.
As part of being an ethical therapist, I discuss my work regularly in supervision. This helps me provide the best possible support, but I never share identifying information about clients.
I don’t record sessions, and I ask that you don’t either, so that our work together remains private and respectful.
If we happen to see each other outside therapy
If we happen to cross paths, I will protect your privacy by not approaching you or starting a conversation. If you choose to say hello, I’ll always follow your lead.
If something doesn’t feel right
I hope you’ll feel able to talk to me if something about our work together doesn’t feel right. Your experience matters, and open conversations help us understand what you need.
You can also contact the BACP for independent advice or support.
Ready when you are
Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting, but you don’t need to have everything worked out before reaching out.
If you have any questions, please get in touch — or book your free introductory call when you feel ready.
